Policies and Procedures

This section will provide information on policies and procedures which are adopted within the Wales Foundation School.  Policies include guidance on maternity leave, study leave, taking time out of programme (OOP), ALS training and revalidation.  If you are unable to find the information you require within these pages then please contact us via email.

Maternity Leave

The Wales Deanery is committed to supporting it's trainees through their training including starting a family. The materity leave policy will provide you with information, advice and guidance on the options available for maternity during training in the Foundation Programme. Click here to view the policy.

Study Leave

This document is to provide guidance for Foundation trainees, Postgraduate Centres, LHB Human Resources and Foundation School employees on study leave. This includes allowances, what study leave can be used for and the approval process. Click here to view the policy.

Out of Programme (OOP)

Foundation doctors can apply during their F1 year to take a year out between their F1 and F2 year. A maximum of 17 applicants will be permitted to take time OOP in 2020/21.

Applications will be selected at random and must be submitted between Monday 28th October and Friday 8th November 2019. Please note that all required signatures must be obtained prior to submission. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

Foundation Doctors who are considering taking time out of programme should download and read the guidance notes prior to completing an application.

Foundation Doctors who are currently taking Time out of Foundation Programme between F1 & F2, and wish to return to Wales to complete their F2 year in August 2020, should inform the Wales Foundation School of their intention to return, in writing, by Friday 25th October 2019.
